Stay Covered
Understanding Your Insurance Requirements

As a ride-hailing driver, you can drive with confidence knowing that every trip is insured. This includes coverage to protect you, your passengers, and others in the event of an accident. In New Zealand, the Accident Compensation Corporation (ACC) provides coverage for injuries caused by accidents, ensuring that you’re supported for medical costs, rehabilitation, and lost earnings. However, ACC does not cover vehicle damage, so it’s essential to have additional vehicle insurance.

Drivers have the option to choose between third-party or full insurance. Third-party insurance covers damage to other people’s property, while full insurance offers broader protection, including your vehicle in the event of damage.

Confirm with your insurer

What are the requirements?

You must have a current and valid licence that meets local ride-hailing regulations.

Most insurers require your vehicle to pass a CoF inspection to confirm it's fit for commercial use.

Some policies may require your vehicle to be listed for passenger service use.

Your car must meet ride-hailing requirements, including safety, roadworthiness, and any licensing obligations.

Keep in mind that third-party property damage insurance may not address all potential scenarios and may not be the best option for everyone’s individual needs. We recommend speaking with your insurer, broker, advisor, or agent to assess the appropriate coverage for your situation, including whether commercial insurance is required.
