Everyone shares responsibility for a safe ride
Whether you’re behind the wheel or in the passenger seat, it’s up to all of us to keep rides safe. See below tips and other important notes for keeping a ride safe.

Car Seats and Child Restraints
Children should travel in appropriate child seats or boosters. Riders may also order through Bolt’s child seat category where available.
Dashcams & Audio Recording
Drivers may use dashcams to record trips where permitted by local law. Riders and drivers may choose to use in-app audio recording tools, where available and permissible.
Distracting the Driver
Let the driver stay focused on the road as this can prevent accidents. Avoid actions that could take the driver's attention away from the road, such as sudden movements, obstructing the view, touching controls or the driver’s personal items, or making excessive noise.
Excessive Noise
Riders should avoid loud music, shouting, or other noises that could distract the driver. Drivers should keep volume at a safe level. Quiet can help the driver concentrate.
Guest Riders
Riders are responsible for ordering the right vehicle for their group and luggage. Only bring as many people as there are seats. Safe rides need enough space for all.
Luggage
Please stow any larger and heavy items safely in any available space in the vehicle's boot or trunk. This helps reduce the chance of luggage damaging the interior of the vehicle. Drivers may decline a trip if luggage blocks visibility.
Opening Doors
Always check for cyclists and traffic before opening a door. A quick check protects everyone on the road. Open doors carefully and only when stopped to avoid injuries or property damage.
Pets
Travelling with pets is allowed in most vehicles. Use the Pet-friendly filter to find rides that allow pets. Riders must have the permission of the driver to transport a pet. To safely transport your pets, keep them in a transportation carrier or cage and secure it with a seatbelt.
Pickup Procedures
Riders should meet at the designated pickup point and take care to enter the correct vehicle by checking the vehicle’s registration, model and the driver’s name. Drivers should only stop where legal and safe, and verify that they have the correct passengers at pick-up. Pickups at unsafe locations, such as on highways, major roads, intersections, and crosswalks should be avoided where possible.
Road Safety Rules
Disobeying local laws and traffic rules causes unnecessary safety risks for others. Drivers should obey all local traffic laws at all times.
Seatbelts
Always wear a seatbelt. This is a quick action that can save your life.
Vehicle Maintenance & Upkeep
Vehicles should be safe and in a condition that’s ready to accept passengers. Drivers should check brakes, tires, and lights regularly.
What happens if someone breaks the rules?
We take community safety seriously. Anyone who is in breach of our Platform Terms may lose access to the Bolt platform. Some actions might violate local laws, while others might simply damage the experience for other users. Bolt may choose to suspend or remove a user from the platform even if their behaviour does not reach the threshold of criminality.
If you experience or witness behaviour that violates these guidelines, you can report it in the Bolt app. Our team reviews all reports and may take actions if needed.
