Safety tips for drivers

Safety for everyone on the platform is a top priority. The points below are practical ways to support safe, respectful, and comfortable trips.

1. Personal and rider safety

Wearing a seatbelt can significantly reduce the risk of injury in an accident.
Many drivers choose to confirm the rider’s name and the destination before starting, to help avoid mix-ups at pickup.
If you prefer, you can invite the rider to confirm your name, too, for example: “Hi, can you confirm the driver’s name?”

2. Traffic compliance

Following local traffic rules, road signs, and speed limits helps keep trips safer for everyone.
Staying focused on the road can also reduce risk. If you use navigation, many drivers find a mounted phone setup less distracting than holding a phone.

3. Handling unsafe situations

If a rider’s behaviour makes you feel unsafe, you can choose not to start the trip.
If something happens during the ride, you can end the trip in a safe, secure location. Then, report the incident through the app.
For added reassurance, you can share your live ride status with someone you trust.

4. Emergency support

The SOS button allows you to contact local emergency services or security companies directly, while optionally notifying Bolt’s Safety team for additional support.

What the SOS button does:

Connects you to local emergency services.
Gives you the option to request follow-up support in the app after the call.

How to activate the SOS button:

1. Open the Safety Toolkit in the app 2. Press and hold the SOS button 3. Wait for the countdown to finish 4. Confirm the emergency 5. The app will redirect you to your phone app with the local emergency number pre-filled After the call, the app may ask whether you want follow-up support.

5. Safe pickups and drop-offs

Many safety issues can be avoided by choosing a safe, visible, and legal place to stop.
Avoiding restricted areas and places that block traffic can also help protect you and the rider.

6. Vehicle maintenance

A well-maintained vehicle can reduce risk and support a comfortable trip. Many drivers regularly check key items such as: -Brakes -Tyres -Lights -Mirrors To help maintain trust and safety, Bolt may review trips with negative feedback or reports. Repeated concerns may lead to restrictions on an account.
