Project Zero

The more zero-emission kilometres, the better the cities.

Our ambition

We’re raising the share of zero-emission vehicles on our ride-hailing platform in Europe to 50% by 2030 and 70% in selected markets.

We know from driver feedback that the shift to electric vehicles (EVs) depends on their confidence in accessing and driving them as conveniently as conventional vehicles.

That’s why we’re focused on reducing barriers, with one goal in mind: making EVs the better alternative.

The 3 pillars of Project Zero:

Improve access to electric vehicles and awareness

35% of ride-hailing drivers say EV prices are the main barrier to switching and 60% want more information about EVs before doing so.

We partner with manufacturers and financiers to offer solutions that better fit ride-hailing drivers’ needs.
We focus on driver awareness by sharing information about Bolt’s electrification initiatives, driver experiences, as well as support mechanisms and incentives available.

Pillar 2

Reduce charging barriers

72% of EV drivers say the biggest challenges to driving electric cars are locating available chargers and fast charging costs.

Pillar 3

Increase rider demand

60% of riders say they're more likely to use ride-hailing if they can regularly access electric vehicles.

We highlight transport modes with lower environmental impact through our dedicated categories to support informed rider choices.
We continuously add vehicles to our Electric & Green categories — now operating in 71 cities across Europe and Africa.

Bolt’s electric vehicle strategy

Bolt’s long-term environmental commitment is to become a carbon net-zero company by 2040

With ride-hailing representing the majority of emissions generated on our platform, increasing the number of zero-emission vehicles is our priority.

Driver awareness & benefits

We’ve partnered with EV fleet software provider Volteum to provide a total cost of ownership calculator. This tool helps ICE drivers analyse their current costs and find the best EV for their needs.

Cut operating costs

The lower cost of electricity compared to petrol and diesel and reduced vehicle maintenance costs mean EVs are, on average, more economical to run than conventional vehicles.

Smooth rides

EVs offer a quieter and more comfortable experience. Drivers who made the switch say EVs are easier to drive and maintain.

Better cities

Each EV replacing a combustion engine helps cut carbon emissions. But the real impact depends on the grid’s power mix. To ensure EV drivers can transport passengers emissions-free, Bolt partners with charging operators that provide 100% renewable electricity.

City benefits

Even partial car trip replacements can significantly shrink a city’s carbon footprint.

Micromobility is cutting emissions fast: shared e-scooters now emit just 61 gCO₂/pkm and e-bikes 46 gCO₂/pkm—far below the EU average of 160 gCO₂/pkm for fossil fuel cars (ITF 2024).

Efficient urban pollution reduction

The average ride-hailing driver covers up to 5 times the daily mileage of a regular private car driver. Electrifying shared mobility will thus lead to more zero-emission kilometres and less air and noise pollution.

Low-emissions urban transport systems

Ride-hailing and other modes of shared mobility already contribute to public transport systems by bridging gaps in public networks. With electrified shared mobility, cities can offer convenient, affordable, and low-emission transport alternatives for every purpose a private car serves.

Our initiatives and partnerships

Electric 3-wheelers In Malta

Utazásmegosztó személyszállítást vezettünk be elektromos háromkerekűkkel, a Buzzz Electric-el partnerségben.

Electric rental cars on Bolt Drive

A balti országok vezető bankjaival, a Swedbankkal és a Luminorral együttműködve, növeltük a hibrid és elektromos járművek számát a Bolt Drive autómegosztó platformon.

Charging solutions and partnerships

We’ve opened an ultra-fast EV charging hub in central Stockholm, accessible only to Bolt platform drivers. This means that drivers spend less time looking for a place to charge and have more hours to maximise their earnings. We partnered with Eleport, a leading EV charging network developer in the Baltics and Poland, to install 750 electric vehicle charging points and launch a driver EV charging incentive programme.
