This month, we’re spotlighting ride-hailing as a form of entrepreneurship with a series of insightful Be-Your-Own-Boss stories from our driver partners.
More people are turning to ride-hailing as a viable path to becoming their own bosses. A third of private-hire drivers surveyed* (34%) already see themselves as entrepreneurs, while nearly half (49%) aim to become business owners.
We jumped into a Bolt to meet exceptional drivers and learn more about their ambitions and driving routines.
Meet Augustine, a dental technician who decided to get behind the wheel in 2018. With an exciting export venture underway and a growing family, Augustine was looking for an opportunity to make money fast while maintaining maximum flexibility.
“So I thought, why not become a driver? It gives me the flexibility to decide when I want to do it.”
After obtaining his licence in 2018, Augustine added the Bolt platform to his driving habits following a friend’s recommendation when Bolt became available in the UK.
“I’m a family man. My family is growing. And I’m about to start a business. With my full-time job and driving earnings, I can make savings every week and work towards my goals.”
Augustine has saved significant money for his business venture. He hopes to launch his new business soon, and the ability to earn money weekly and the flexibility that comes with it allow him to pursue his goals successfully.
It started as a temporary solution, but Augustine has no plans to stop driving. “Every time I meet different people, I go to different places. I just love driving!”
From accountants to investment bankers, lawyers, students, and even the assistant of one of his favourite actors, he’s met many people and believes we can all learn from each other.
“Whatever you are, whoever you are, we have something to share. I learn a lot from people”.
We learnt a lot from Augustine’s dedication and ambition. We also discovered his true passion for football — he’s an unconditional Chelsea fan!
