A few months ago, we launched Bolt Black Cab, our newest category that lets you book a black cab in a few taps.
If you’re new to Bolt and haven’t used the app before, requesting a ride’s simple. With just a few taps, you can get picked up in minutes and enjoy a comfortable ride to your destination.
Black cabs (also known as Hackney Carriages) have been integral to London’s transport system for decades.
Their distinctive layout offers a unique, comfortable, and enjoyable way to move around the city. And with up to 5 to 6 seats in the back, there’s plenty of space for luggage and belongings.
All Bolt drivers must pass a DBS check and topographical test to operate in London. However, taxi drivers must pass The Knowledge of London — considered by many to be the most challenging taxi test in the world.
London taxis can also use bus lanes, saving you precious minutes when in a hurry and during rush hour.
Once you’ve downloaded the app and added a payment card to your account, you’re ready to go.
Simply add your ride destination, select your preferred car category, such as Black Cab, and confirm your request.
Black Cab rides are priced based on fares set by Transport for London. An estimated fare will be shown in your Bolt app, and the final price paid is set in accordance with the taximeter.
Please note that a £2 online booking fee is added to your trip fare.
If you experience any issues when requesting a ride, you can contact our Support team via the app — just tap the Support tab in the menu.
Once your trip’s started, you can share the details with friends and family via the app. They’ll be able to see your pickup point, real-time location, and driver information.

Once a trip ends, you can tip your driver via the Bolt app for up to 15 minutes. 100% of your tip will be sent to the driver.
