Thank you to the women drivers breaking stereotypes

18 Mar 2024

At our latest Bolt driver community event in London, we celebrated the women drivers breaking stereotypes and driving change.

We partnered with racing driver Caitlin Wood, who shared her inspiring journey. Being the first Australian woman to participate in prestigious European races, Caitlin’s become an advocate for equality and diversity in motorsport, showing that “hard work doesn’t have a gender”

Breaking the bias

We aim to empower women by ensuring they can earn flexibly and independently. In 2023, the number of women drivers on the Bolt platform grew by 30% globally.

But it’s no secret that women are still underrepresented in the ride-hailing industry. According to Department for Transport statistics, 93% of UK drivers in the private hire and taxi industries are male.

We’ve always encouraged women to become drivers, but roadblocks remain. In our survey of 2,000 women in Europe and Africa who have never been a driver, only 7.2% considered driving as a way to earn.

One of the main blockers is that it’s seen as male-dominated. 25% of the women said they haven’t considered being a driver because of their gender. And 15% weren’t confident enough to drive for a living.
