The Bike Project: Ride to empower people seeking asylum and refugees

11 Apr 2024

In 2022, we announced the start of a special partnership with The Bike Project. A unique charity which takes in second-hand bikes refurbishes them and donates them to refugees and people seeking asylum.

When that announcement was made, we committed to supporting The Bike Project in a series of ways including:

  • Bolt Bike Hubs ā€” turning select driver hub locations into bike drop-off sites
  • Help and support ā€” offering those who have received the ā€˜right to remainā€™ access to training and qualifications so they can consider driving with Bolt or seeking employment in one of our many open roles
  • Fundraising ā€” leveraging our access to millions of UK customers to raise awareness of the charity. In 2022, we raised Ā£34,000 running a similar promotion with the Bike Project using the Bolt app.

How does Boltā€™s fundraising work?

Itā€™s as easy as riding a bike.

The Bike Project with Bolt is a unique ride type in our app, just like a standard Bolt trip. The only difference is that your trip will include an extra 50p which is automatically donated to The Bike Project.

During the campaign period, a bespoke ā€œThe Bike Projectā€ ride type, and a uniquely branded green and purple car will appear in the app menu.

For Bolt driver partners ā€” trips are priced just like normal Bolt trips. The 50p addition will not come from driver earnings.

The amount that will be donated is factored into Boltā€™s pricing.

The new ride type will be available in the Bolt app in London from 1 p.m. on the 11 April 2024 to 15 April 2024.

Your contributions will have an immediate impact on providing refurbished bikes, repairs, or towards Pedal Power courses funded for female refugees who are learning how to cycle for the first time.
