The risks of offline trips

14 Nov 2023

At Bolt, safety comes first. That’s why we have Safety Toolkits for drivers and passengers to protect them before, during, and after rides. And offline trips outside the app are the main threat to their safety.

What are offline trips?

An offline trip happens when, upon accessing the pickup location and the passenger’s contact details, the driver cancels the trip in-app but completes it offline. Alternatively, the initiative might come from a rider.

What’s wrong with riding offline?

While having a regular ride, you have access to our Safety Toolkit’s features:

  • See your driver’s location in real-time.
  • Share your live location and trip details with a loved one.
  • Record audio during the ride through the app.
  • See the driver rating and leave feedback after the trip.
  • Contact our 24/7 Support team.

All these features are unavailable during offline trips, taking any issue longer to investigate.

What’s wrong with driving offline?

It’s a fraud, which means your driver account will be suspended or deactivated.

Moreover, any incident that occurs offline is difficult to track and investigate by our Safety team. And it’s not covered by insurance.

During the offline trip, you also cannot access our safety features for drivers.

If a driver or rider insists on an offline trip, cancel the ride and report it via the app or email ghana@bolt.eu.
