The Bolt Safety Team has launched Rider Verification, a new safety feature that will help to increase driver safety in South Africa.
When riders choose to use this feature, they will be required to upload a selfie and identification document, which we then cross-check to confirm their identity.
This gives drivers on the Bolt platform confidence that the person they’re picking up is who they say they are — building trust between drivers and riders.
A safety feature by drivers, for drivers
When you use the Bolt platform, the Bolt Safety Team looks for your safety.
As part of this commitment to driver safety, we frequently request feedback from our driver partners on the platform.
Rider Verification was one of the most requested features from drivers in South Africa, and thanks to your feedback, the Bolt Safety Team has made it happen.
What is Rider Verification?
Before riders place an order, they have the option to verify their identity in the Bolt app.
To do this, they need to take a selfie (making sure their face is clearly visible) and upload an official identification document. We then cross-check the selfie with their identification document to confirm the person is who they claim to be.
The few seconds it takes for us to verify a rider’s identity increases safety, builds trust, and allows you to use the Bolt platform with confidence.
