Bolt insurance

No schedule, no boss, and great earnings! These are just some of the benefits that Bolt offers tour operators and drivers.

Signing up to drive with Bolt offers you the flexibility to provide for you and your family on your terms whether you’re the owner of a fleet or have your own personal car.

There are so many opportunities! In 2020, for example, despite the pandemic and lockdowns, Bolt driver earnings were at a record high in the 4th quarter of 2020, with drivers earning significantly more than R100 per hour.

As the world slowly opens up, people are itching to get on the move and with the easing of movement restrictions and South Africans travelling more for work and leisure, now’s the time to register as a Bolt driver so that you don’t get left behind.

How does Bolt work for me as a driver in the tourism industry?

Tourists are always looking for smarter and cheaper ways to get around. While average car rental costs remain high (with higher deposit fee rates), travellers can move around with Bolt from as little as R20 per trip. Bolt’s convenience and affordability make it the superior alternative to the hassle of renting a car or arranging shuttle services.

If you have a PrDP and a vehicle(s), you’re already one step ahead in our application process.

Additionally, Bolt Business offers you a business management platform that does the hard admin work for you. You get:

  • Automated billing: We effectively run your business for you as our system collates monthly rides and manages bills;
  • Team management: You have complete control over who drives — whether you have a fleet or drive for yourself;
  • Increased transparency: See how your drivers are performing and how people rate them.
  • Seamless orders: Using an app means your drivers don’t get lost and receive their payments without hassle;
  • Scheduled rides: Accept scheduled trips to know where you need to be in advance;

What do I need to be a Bolt Driver?

To get started, here are a few things that you need to start driving with Bolt:

  • A vehicle (or the vehicle and contact details of a partner on the platform with a car);
  • A valid driver’s license;
  • A Motor Vehicle License Disc with Operating Card (Double disc);
  • A professional driving permit (PrDP) service provider card;
  • A vehicle Certificate of Registration (COR);
  • A vehicle Inspection report (TRA)
  • A vehicle with a year model of 2013 and above (depending on the city you operate in), 4 doors, 350L luggage capacity, AC;
  • A clean criminal record;
  • A smartphone (Android device Operating System (OS) 6 & Apple iOS 8 and newer).

Once all of the above is complete, then you’re ready to sign up.

During the sign-up process, you’ll need to add your vehicle documents to the online registration form, which will speed up your application. After registering your details (which takes roughly 5 minutes), you’ll receive an email with all the necessary information about upcoming training and how to sign up.

Sign up now and start earning with Bolt on your schedule! Bolt allows you to expand your business — even if you only have one car in your fleet.

How will you get paid?

Customers pay for Bolt rides via 2 methods — cash or via Bolt’s in-app payment (also known as card payments). The payment cycle runs from Monday 00:00 to the following Sunday at 23:59. You’ll receive your balance statement thereafter.

If you are due to receive a payout, we’ll send you the funds during the first half of the week. Depending on your bank’s processing time, it will take 1–2 business days to show in your account.

What about costs?

With Bolt, there are no monthly or hidden fees — the average ride commission is 23%, which includes 3% VAT that gets paid to SARS. If you’d like more detailed information about driving with Bolt and increasing your earnings, please contact us: supplyjhb@bolt.eu.
