Empowering local innovation: Bolt awards €20,000 to South Africa’s emerging entrepreneurs

Ten aspiring entrepreneurs from Bolt’s South African driver community have received a total of €20,000 (over R400,000) in seed funding, marking the successful conclusion of Bolt’s Accelerator Program in the country.
Launched in December 2024 in collaboration with business academy Pranary, the Bolt Accelerator Program was designed to turn entrepreneurial ideas into real-world solutions — with a focus on transforming South Africa’s mobility sector from the ground up. The response was overwhelming: over 578 applications poured in from across the country.
“When we empower everyday entrepreneurs with the tools to build, we don’t just ignite businesses — we transform communities and shape the future of Africa’s mobility. True innovation thrives in an ecosystem where ideas are nurtured, collaboration is championed, and every voice has a seat at the table.”
Lerato Motsoeneng, Bolt’s Senior General Manager for South Africa.
From idea to impact
After a rigorous selection process, 120 applicants were chosen to participate in the Bolt Academy, receiving hands-on training in market analysis, value proposition design, customer validation, and financial modelling.
From there, 20 finalists were selected to refine their ventures with help from mentors and industry experts. Their journey culminated in a live pitch event, where a panel of judges evaluated their business ideas based on innovation, feasibility, and community impact.
Ten finalists walked away with €2,000 (over R40,000) each to kickstart their ventures, along with six weeks of dedicated mentorship to help scale their businesses further.
