How temporary holds work

A temporary hold (or pre-authorisation) is a way for banks to confirm your payment method works. This helps check that your payment method is valid and minimises any chance of fraudulent use. A temporary hold applies even if your drive minutes are covered by pass credit.

The temporary hold amount is set automatically. It may show on your bank statement as a pending charge, since the money never leaves your account. Your money should be available again within a few hours, but could take up to 14 days to appear in your bank account. In rare cases, it could take up to 30 days. Contact your bank for details.

Temporary holds can fail for several reasons:

  • Insufficient funds in your account.
  • Your bank doesn't allow the transaction.
  • Your bank's system identifies the temporary hold as suspicious activity.

If the temporary hold fails, you won't be able to start your ride. If this happens, contact your bank or financial institution.
