How to Become a Taxi Driver in Cyprus

To become a professional taxi driver (Category T) in Cyprus, you must meet several requirements and provide specific documents. Follow these steps to complete your application.

Age: 21–70 years old

Hold a Category B driver’s license for at least 2 years

Criminal Record Certificate required

Physical Fitness Certificate from a registered doctor (if over 60, from a government medical board)

Professional Driver Training Certificate (after passing written exams)

Not receiving public assistance for health reasons (signed declaration)

Submit 3 photos for first issue, 2 for renewal

What is a Taxi Medallion?

To operate a vehicle as a taxi in Cyprus, it must be linked to a Medallion—a certificate issued by local authorities with a unique identification number. Medallions are limited and allocated per city. You can acquire a Medallion by renting or purchasing one. Each Medallion can only be linked to one vehicle at a time.
