FootBolt: Good things come to those who walk

8 Sept 2022

Towns, cities, and homes should be for people, not cars. Yet, the opposite is often true — on average, 80% of street and road land is dedicated to cars.

Our mission is to make cities better by reducing the number of private cars. Shared transport is more sustainable than individual modes of transport — but we acknowledge that cycling and walking are still the most sustainable and healthy ways to move around.

If you want to walk fast, walk alone. If you want to walk far, walk together

Earlier this summer, we announced our partnership with the world’s most sustainable football club Forest Green Rovers from Nailsworth — because we’re truly inspired by what the club stands for. They’re considered by the UN to be the most sustainable football club in the world, and demonstrate that making little changes can positively move an entire industry. Our care for our communities’ well-being and cities is in perfect alignment — and we know that if we want to walk fast, we have to walk alone, but if we want to walk far, we have to walk together.

FootBolt — get prizes for just… walking

For the duration of the football season, we’re inviting all football fans and their friends and families in the UK to participate in the FootBolt walking challenge and prove that good things happen to people — and cities — when we use private cars less and walk more.

Every month until May 2023, we’ll award ten people who reach the monthly goal of 186,000 steps with prizes — be it new trainers, 2023/24 FGR season tickets, golf lessons, or something else. 186,000 steps may sound a lot, but over a month, it averages only to 6,000 – 7,750 steps per day.

FootBolt

Supporting the community of Nailsworth

If all FootBolt participants collectively walk at least 1.5 billion steps from 6 August 2022 until 6 May 2023 (inclusive), Bolt will grant FGR’s hometown of Nailsworth £10,000. Nailsworthians, in collaboration with their town council, will decide how to put this grant to use.

A challenge for the greater good

Bolt is a ride-hailing app available in 19 cities across the UK. So, why would we organise a challenge that encourages people to… walk? Because we believe that people — and cities — would be better off if we all made the shift from private cars to shared mobility, public transport, cycling, and walking. Hopefully, FootBolt brings us a step closer to achieving this mission.

All you need to do to participate in the FootBolt challenge, is download the YuMuuv fitness app to your iOS or Android phone, join the FootBolt monthly individual and community challenges with the code FOOTBOLT, and connect your phone health tracking app, smartwatch, or fitness tracker. You’ll see your and the community’s progress there.

FAQs

Can I still participate if I don’t live in Nailsworth or am not a fan of FGR?

Absolutely! The FootBolt challenge is open to anyone in the UK.

What are the YuMuuv app challenges that I need to join?

If you enter the code FOOTBOLT in the YuMuuv app upon registration or the ‘Community’ section of your profile, you’ll see a FootBolt monthly individual challenge and a FootBolt community challenge. You should join both. A new monthly individual challenge will appear in the app at the beginning of every month and should be joined manually.

Who should I contact if I’m having difficulties with my YuMuuv account and participating in the FootBolt monthly individual and/or community challenges?

Please contact support@yumuuv.com, and let them know the problem you’re having with the FootBolt challenges.

I’m injured or have a mobility disability but would like to participate in the challenge. Can I?

Yes, you can — it will just require you to send screenshots of your activity to the YuMuuv team so they can manually calculate the equivalent steps and add them to the challenges. See the Terms & Conditions page on footbolt.co.uk for more information!

Where can I find more information about the challenge and its Terms & Conditions?

All information can be found on footbolt.co.uk — including contact information in case you have more questions.
