London’s well-known for its iconic modes of transport. The Capital’s home to 9 million people who rely on its 272 Tube stations, 8,500+ buses, taxis, and mobility services (like Bolt).
While we encourage passengers to walk, cycle, or use public transport wherever possible, sometimes you need to go somewhere specific and fast. That’s where Bolt comes in.
And based on passenger requests, we’re pleased to announce the launch of our new Bolt Black Cab category!
Classically London
London taxis (also known as a Hackney Carriage) offer a unique, enjoyable, and relaxing way to move through London. Here are some of our favourite reasons to take a London taxi.
Bus lane accessible
- In most cases, taxis can use London bus lanes, which can shave minutes off your trip.
A distinctive layout
- London taxis are partitioned with 5 to 6 seats in the back of the cab.
- 2 fold-down seats line the partition and are rear-facing, so you can keep the conversation going. And if an awkward silence ensues, you have the perfect view of the city sights.
- In addition to 4 friends, there’s space in the middle of the taxi for luggage and belongings.
Exceptionally knowledgeable drivers
- All taxi and minicab drivers must pass a DBS check to obtain the correct licensing to operate in London. Additionally, London taxi drivers need to pass The Knowledge of London, considered by many experts to be the most challenging taxi test in the world and one of the gold standards for taxi knowledge. Becoming a licensed London taxi driver is no easy feat.
- This means Bolt Black Cab drivers will know how to get you to your destination in the most direct and efficient way possible.
Priced by the meter
Black Cab rides are priced based on the fares set by Transport for London. An estimated fare will be shown in the Bolt app and the final price paid will be in accordance with the taximeter.
Note that a £2 online booking fee will also be added to your trip fare.
Let’s move, London!
We welcome and thank the London taxi drivers who signed up to drive with Bolt before the launch.
