Introducing Bolt Pet — move around the city with your furry friend

1 Nov 2023

Exciting news! Our pet-friendly category is now available in all UK cities where we operate.

Moving around the city with your furry friend should be as stress-free as possible. So whenever you need to bring your pet, visit the vet, or simply don’t want to leave your four-legged pal at home, hop in a Bolt!

Below is all you need to know about the new category. And if you keep reading, there might be a little surprise at the end of the article.

How to book a pet-friendly trip

Once you’ve downloaded the Bolt app, add your destination and select the Pet category before confirming your trip. Bolt Pet will guarantee a safe and comfortable journey for you and your furry friend, but here are a few things to keep in mind:

  • Bring a blanket to cover the seat;
  • Cats and dogs don’t have to be caged, but other common household animals should be;
  • Don’t leave pets unattended for any part of the journey;
  • If you plan to travel with a large-sized dog, kindly notify your driver through the app before the trip.

Should you request the Pet category if you have an assistance dog?

Service animals can accompany you at all times without extra charge — you can choose any category when travelling with one.

How many pets can join a Bolt Pet ride?

You can bring a maximum of 2 small animals, such as a small to medium-sized dog, a cat, or any other animal classed as a domestic pet.

  • If travelling alone, you can bring up to 2 small pets;
  • If there are 2 or more passengers, you can bring 1 pet.

Which types of pets are allowed in the car?

Passengers are welcome to bring cats and dogs of all sizes, and other commonly recognised household pets.

In which UK cities is Bolt Pet available?

The Bolt Pet category is available in all cities where Bolt operates in the UK.

How do you ensure cars remain clean?

As a passenger, you are fully responsible for your pets during a ride. To ensure a smooth trip with your pet(s), we recommend bringing a blanket to cover the seat and a cleaning kit with wipes and tissues.

If a car’s left in a messy condition and needs professional cleaning, note that you’ll be charged a cleaning fee.

Driving with Bolt?

If you’re driving with Bolt, here’s everything you need to know about the new Pet category as a driver. Note that the category is optional, and you can choose to opt in and out at any time. To check if you’re enrolled and access the list of available categories, simply tap on the vehicle icon in your Bolt Driver app at the bottom right of the map.

Once enrolled, you will still have the possibility  to decline incoming requests at any point. If you are allergic to animals, make sure to opt out of the Bolt Pet category.
