Everyone deserves to feel safe and welcome

The safety of our users is the number one priority at Bolt. Behaviours that create the risk of harm or make someone feel unsafe are strictly prohibited and may result in loss of access to the Bolt platform. If you ever feel unsafe or encounter a safety incident on a Bolt trip, use the in-app emergency tools and report it to us immediately.

Inappropriate and Sexual Behaviour

We want everyone using the Bolt platform to feel safe, respected, and comfortable. That is why we expect all users to treat each other with consideration. Behaviour that creates unnecessary discomfort or safety risks for others is not acceptable and may lead to removal of access to the Bolt platform. These guidelines apply to all interactions that take place through our platform, whether before, during, and after a trip. Inappropriate and sexual behaviour includes but is not limited to:
Intrusive questions or remarks about someone’s appearance, body, gender identity, or sexual orientation
Unwanted or suggestive sexual comments, gestures, or attention
Sharing explicit or intrusive sexual content or messages

Physical Contact

Physical contact can make others feel unsafe or uncomfortable. It’s best to avoid unnecessary or unwanted contact, including touching, grabbing, striking, or other physical behaviour that may feel intimidating. Keeping distance helps support a safe and respectful experience for everyone.

Discrimination and Hate Speech

Everyone should feel welcome on the Bolt platform, regardless of their background or identity. Discrimination or hate speech based on protected characteristics is not acceptable and may lead to removal of access to the Bolt platform. These include race or ethnicity, religion, age, gender, gender identity, pregnancy, sexual orientation, disability, or national origin.

Examples of unacceptable behaviour may include:

Declining a ride or refusing service based on someone’s perceived identity
Refusing service because of a service animal (not including emotional support animals)
Refusing to pay or accept payment based on someone’s perceived identity
Using slurs or hateful language
Sharing gestures or imagery that promote violence, hatred, or dehumanise a person or group

Threats and Verbal Harassment

All forms of harassment, including verbal and physical, are not acceptable on the Bolt platform. This includes behaviour that causes fear, distress, or discomfort to others. Examples include:
Verbal abuse, insults, or threats (regardless of credibility)
Intimidating or aggressive behaviour
Repeated or unwanted contact after a trip, whether through the app or other channels
If a serious verbal conflict happens during a trip, users are encouraged to de-escalate where possible, end the trip in a safe location, and report the incident to Bolt.

Weapons and Prohibited Items

Weapons and dangerous items create unnecessary safety risks and are not permitted on Bolt trips. This includes:
Firearms
Explosives
Tasers
Knives
Other objects that could be used to intimidate or cause harm
If you have any issues, please contact our support team

Drugs and Alcohol

The use of drugs or consumption of alcohol during a ride are not allowed as this behaviour can affect safety and comfort for everyone:
Driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol is against the law
Riders who appear overly intoxicated may be refused services by a driver
Open alcohol containers or illegal substances should not be brought on trips
If you have concerns about someone being impaired during a trip, you can report it to Bolt.

What happens if someone breaks the rules?

We take community safety seriously. Anyone who is in breach of our Platform Terms may lose access to the Bolt platform. Some actions might violate local laws, while others might simply damage the experience for other users. Bolt may choose to suspend or remove a user from the platform even if their behaviour does not reach the threshold of criminality.

If you experience or witness behaviour that violates these guidelines, you can report it in the Bolt app. Our team reviews all reports and may take actions if needed.

Respect and Consideration

Mutual respect is the foundation of a safe platform.

On-trip Safety

Everyone shares responsibility for a safe ride.

Authenticity and Honesty

Trust depends on knowing who is using the platform.
