Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) for Drivers

Our FAQs section for drivers provides answers to commonly asked questions related to driving and vehicle-related concerns.

VAT on Commission

This is in line with the digital service tax proposed as per NTSA regulations. The provisions of VAT (Electronic, Internet and Digital Market Place Supply) Regulations, 2023 obligate Bolt to collect and remit 16% VAT chargeable on Bolt’s 18% Commission.

Bolt commission is capped at 18%. This 18% will not include the VAT based on NTSA regulations. The charge will be a 16% rate on the Commission fee for each trip

Effective 1st April, 2025

The 2023 VAT regulations place obligations on digital marketplace suppliers, but individual drivers still have income tax responsibilities. It is highly advisable for drivers to seek guidance from the KRA or a qualified tax professional to ensure they are fully compliant with Kenyan tax laws.
