Electric scooter myths

This week, Ireland took a big step to advance regulation for e-scooters and e-bikes, as the country considers the next steps for the transport modes to be they are finally set legalised on Irish roads. Minister for Transport, Eamon Ryan TD announced the Government’s approval to draft legislation to regulate the use of e-scooters and e-bikes in the forthcoming Road Traffic (Miscellaneous Provisions) Bill.

The positive impact of micromobility

Luke Mackey, Country Manager Ireland at Bolt, says “I wholeheartedly welcome the news of the Government’s approval to draft legislation which will allow for the regulation of e-scooters and e-bikes in Ireland. Micromobility has already gone some distance to illustrate the positive impact it can have on a city’s transport infrastructure to the benefit of its people and local environment, so the prospect of it being formally introduced in Ireland is exciting.”

To echo Minister of State Hildegarde Naughton’s sentiment, any introduction needs to be done thoughtfully and respectfully, to ensure that micromobility works for everybody. Bolt now offers its shared electric scooter and electric bike rental services in 50 cities across 15 countries, with plans to become the biggest operator in Europe later this year. We have a wealth of experience in seamlessly weaving the platform into the fabric of cities across the continent and as such, we’re already in touch with local authorities and partners throughout Ireland to understand the role that we can play in ensuring the exciting emissionless future of e-scooters and e-bikes, works for all of their constituents.

“The future of Bolt in Ireland certainly looks very bright. The convenience of a combination of micromobility and public transport can bring is well documented. Add our newly launched taxi-hailing service and industry-leading, safety-focused proprietary hardware into the equation, and the potential gets hugely exciting. We’re eager to bring our unique offering to the country in 2021.”
