For short-to-medium journeys, e-bikes offer an affordable, sustainable, and convenient way to move around the city. If you’re in Sligo, Kilkenny, Wexford, the Southern region of Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown and now Carlow, you can unlock and rent e-bikes directly from the Bolt app! But whether you’re new to cycling or are a regular cyclist, always remember these safety tips before hitting the road.
1. Wear a helmet
Your safety and health should always be the biggest priority while enjoying the benefits of e-bikes. We strongly recommend wearing a helmet while using a Bolt e-bike.
2. Check the e-bike
We run regular maintenance checks on our bikes, but before cycling, please give the tyres a look over and adjust the seat to the appropriate height. Don’t forget to check the battery range in the Bolt app if you’re going on a long journey.
3. Test your brakes and be aware of your speed
The motor-assisted speed of Bolt e-bikes can reach 25 km/h. So please pay special attention to the brakes by testing them at the start of your trip. And once you’ve got going, be mindful of your speed, and slow down ahead of time.
4. Respect and follow traffic laws
Use bike lanes where possible, and please be aware of local traffic laws. And remember that unsafe behaviour, such as 2 people on 1 bike, is strictly forbidden for your safety and will result in being blocked from the Bolt app. Per our T&Cs, such behaviour could also void your insurance should something go wrong.
5. Stay alert on the road
Be mindful of your surroundings and always make yourself visible — especially when large vehicles are turning.
6. Park responsibly
Once you finish your trip, park your e-bike in a designated area shown in the Bolt app. And please make sure the bike doesn’t obstruct footpaths and accessways.
With these steps, you’re now ready to enjoy all the benefits of Bolt e-bikes while keeping yourself and others safe!
So the next time you need to go somewhere, simply open the app, find a nearby bike, and reach your destination safely and sustainably. See you on the road!
