Find out what documents and steps are needed to register as a VTC or Taxi driver on Bolt in France.

You can register as a private driver (VTC), a taxi driver, or start driving under a fleet company. To register, you’ll need an active email address and a reachable mobile phone number.

VTC Requirements

1. Registering as a VTC Driver

To become a VTC (private hire) driver in France, you must provide the following documents. Please bring original documents to a Bolt partner location for registration.

Valid VTC professional card (front and back)
Valid ID (passport, national ID, or EU residence card)
Valid driver’s license
Recent ID photo (taken on-site)
Company registration document (KBIS, SIRENE extract, or auto-entrepreneur certificate)
Proof of professional liability insurance
Proof of registration in the VTC register
Vehicle registration certificate (carte grise or provisional certificate)
Vehicle insurance certificate
Proof of commercial transport insurance (must show license plate and vehicle model)
VTC windshield sticker (macaron)

Important: In-Person Registration Required

Since January 1, 2019 (Decree No. 2018-1036), you must visit a Bolt partner location to complete your registration. Bring all original documents for a smooth process. Without these, we cannot create your account.

Valid VTC card

You must have a VTC professional card to operate your business. It is valid for 5 years. Thereafter, you will need to apply for a renewal every 5 years. You must present both the front and back of this document.

We accept all versions of the French national identity card. We also accept passports or EU residence cards in place of a valid ID document.

Driving license

To obtain a B driving license:

You must have a valid driving license.
You are a permanent resident/student in France.
You have reached the age of 18.
You have completed valid risk training.
You have passed the theory test and the driving test.
You do not have a driving licence from another EEA country.

This photo will be taken on-site, in the Partners Area. No hats, no sunglasses, no photos of photos, please.

Vehicle registration document

When you own a French car (registered), you are required to have a new registration document issued, which registers the vehicle in your name at your address at the prefecture. This procedure must be completed within 15 days of the sale. The price of the registration document depends on the engine power.

VTC Macaron

The VTC sticker, also known as the VTC sticker, is an identification item issued to VTC drivers. It is a sticker that the driver must affix to the windshield of their vehicle. It allows customers to be visually informed that the vehicle is authorized to carry out the activity of transporting people with a driver. After registering in the VTC operator register, it is possible to order the VTC badge, which will be manufactured and issued by the Imprimerie Nationale.

2. Registering as a Taxi Driver

To register as a taxi driver in France, you must provide the following documents.

Valid taxi professional card
Valid ID (passport, national ID, or residence permit)
Valid driver’s license
Recent ID photo (taken on-site)
Company registration document (KBIS, SIRENE extract, or auto-entrepreneur certificate)
Proof of professional liability insurance
Vehicle registration certificate (carte grise or provisional certificate)

Taxi parking permit (ADS)

Professional Taxi Card

You must have a professional Taxi card to operate your business. To obtain a Taxi card, you must be at least 21 years old, hold a valid driver's license, and have completed the training and passed the Taxi exam.

Fleet

3. Register under a fleet company

A fleet company has the right to employ you as a driver or lease you a vehicle. The owner of the fleet you wish to join will need to initiate a joining request from their Bolt Fleets account using your contact details (email and telephone number) and your documents. To do this, you must have valid documents:

National identity card, passport or residence permit
Driving license
VTC or Taxi card depending on the type of fleet
Driver's photo (taken on site during registration)

Vehicle registration

If you want to use the fleet owner's vehicle, you do not need to provide the vehicle documents. The fleet owner will add the vehicle from their Bolt Fleets account , once approved the vehicle will appear on your account.
If you wish to use your own vehicle, you will need to send the fleet owner the necessary documents so that he can add your vehicle from his Bolt Fleets account , once approved the vehicle will appear on your account.

Important FAQs about finding a fleet partner

Ask the new fleet manager to submit a new driver request for you from their fleet portal.

Once the request has been created, contact our team and provide the fleet details (name, email address, etc.).

If you wish to leave your fleet, contact our support team (via the in-app messaging service or at partners@bolt.eu).

Note: Please note that after changing or leaving a fleet, you will have a new driver account on our platform. This means that information related to your old account (trips, bonuses, invoices, etc.) will no longer appear in the app or the driver portal.
