On the 9th of August 1956, more than 20,000 women of all races marched in unison to demand equal rights for women. More than 60 years later, we continue to celebrate that historic event.
Today, that freedom continues to empower women across South Africa, whether it’s in the ability to move around safely and independently or to unlock extra income by driving.
In celebration of National Women’s Day, we’re doubling down on our efforts to get more South African women driving with Bolt. In addition to offering equal earning opportunities and the ability to earn on your own schedule, we’re installing protective shields in the vehicles of our female drivers, adding an extra layer of protection for them.
The protective shields will be rolled-out starting from the 7th of August in Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban.
To further ensure the safety and well-being of everyone driving with Bolt, we have included an SOS button inside the Bolt Driver app. If there’s ever any threat to you, or your passenger’s safety, or anyone else on the road, please don’t hesitate to use it.
When you press the SOS button our safety partner, Namola is immediately notified. You will be contacted for further details, so please, answer your phone as soon as possible. This way it’s certain that the right kind of help will be on its way within minutes.
We also have Bolt trip protection, which offers insurance to drivers and passengers on every trip at no extra cost.
We know that amazing things happen when women take the wheel. We’re really happy to share Lerato’s story, one of our female Bolt drivers in Cape Town.
Lerato is one of many South African women who have taken charge of their finances by signing up to drive with Bolt.
You too can take charge of your time and earning potential. Don’t be shy — join our community of female drivers.
