Great news for all you iPhone users out there… Bolt now accepts Apple Pay as a method of payment! This blog article helps explain everything you need to know about this exciting release and probably a little bit more, just in case…

Hang on, what’s Apple Pay?

Good question! Apple Pay is the contactless payment technology used on Apple devices, like the iPhone. It was designed to move consumers away from physical wallets into a world where your debit and credit card details can be stored inside your iPhone or Apple Watch, allowing you to pay using your device instead of a card.

Why is Apple Pay a good thing?

Because more ways to pay is never a bad thing, right? But, it’s not all just about making your life easier. As you know, nothing is more important to us than security and that’s Apple Pay’s biggest bonus—the increased security it provides both you and us.

To complete a transaction through Apple Pay requires a unique identifier and a one-time-use security code, along with your additional biometric verification via FaceID or TouchID. This way, your credit card number doesn’t need to be transmitted for the transaction, meaning that a potential fraudster would need the one-time transaction code and your face or fingerprint to make unauthorised charges—which is, thankfully, not very likely!

Who can pay for a Bolt with Apple Pay?

Here’s what you need to be able to use this awesome new feature:

  1. a compatible iPhone (iPhone 6/6 Plus or newer);
  2. a bank that supports Apple Pay (see below);
  3. Apple Pay enabled on your phone — find out how;
  4. and the Bolt app, obviously!

Apple Pay is supported by most major credit and debit card providers including Visa, MasterCard and American Express, but you’ll need to make sure that your bank supports Apple Pay. Fortunately, Apple have made a handy website to help you check if yours does.

Generally speaking, Bolt users can pay for their rides with Apple Pay if their banking card is from Austria, Australia, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Estonia, Finland, France, Hungary, Kazakhstan, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Slovakia, Sweden, Ukraine, United Kingdom, Saudi Arabia.
