We’re proud to announce the launch of our e-scooter Safety Toolkit. This new Bolt app feature is designed to encourage responsible usage of Bolt e-scooters and e-bikes.

Over the last few years, micromobility has been propelled to the forefront of urban transportation. e-scooters and e-bikes are becoming more and more common in our cities. But, as with every new technology, questions around their safety and reliability have also emerged.

At Bolt, we’ve taken on the challenge of answering those questions, improving the safety of micromobility vehicles and helping our users ride more responsibly.

What is Bolt’s Safety Toolkit?

Last year, we committed to adding more shared and electric vehicles on our platform. This wasn’t just a promise to bring more green-coloured scooters and e-bikes to the streets and deal with the consequences as we go. It was a promise to make micromobility accessible, safe and affordable for as many people as possible.

Bolt introduces world's first micromobility Safety Toolkit

The Safety Toolkit is a way to encourage all Bolt scooter and e-bike users to be more responsible for their own safety. This feature includes the following elements:

  • Beginner Mode: limit the maximum speed and learn how to ride an e-scooter.
  • How to ride: tips for beginners.
  • Safety tips: reminders about responsible and safe riding.
  • Local rules: information related to local micromobility regulations.

To access the Safety Toolkit, users simply need to switch the Bolt app to Scooter mode and tap on the shield icon at the bottom-right of the screen.

We’re actively collaborating with governments to establish the best practices for the use of electric scooters and e-bikes. We also constantly keep our riders updated on local rules.

Working toward a greener future

Bolt’s e-scooters and electric bike-sharing service contribute to our Green Plan, a long-term commitment to reduce the company’s impact on the environment. Green Plan goals include offsetting CO₂ emissions of the European transportation sector by at least five million tonnes by 2025.

Earlier this summer, Bolt launched an electric bike-sharing service. In doing so, we became the first on-demand transportation app in Europe to offer electric bikes, e-scooters, and ride-hailing under a single brand.

Bolt e-scooters are currently available to customers in Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Norway, Romania, Poland, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania. The Bolt electric bike-sharing service is currently available in Paris.

The next time you fancy a trundle around the city on an electric scooter, go for the safest, greener option — choose Bolt!
