how to use electric scooter

What’s green, has two wheels and is light, durable and super-easy to use? You probably guessed where this was going from the headline… It’s the new custom-built scooter model from Bolt, of course! Here’s everything you need to know about it.

A scooter representing Bolt’s values

Efficiency is one of the core values in Bolt’s everyday working life. This value has enabled us to bring fast, affordable and reliable urban transportation to millions of people all over the world.

Bolt was the first transportation platform to integrate scooter sharing and ride-hailing in the same app. By doing so, we officially moved into the micro-mobility game. 2 years on, we felt that it was the right time to channel our most efficient efforts into hardware operations as well.

…and so, Bolt’s first custom-built scooter is born!

Designed and engineered focusing on modularity, Bolt’s new scooter is the most easy-to-repair scooter on the market right now. Thanks to the innovative modular design and engineering, most broken scooters can be restored and put back onto the streets, instead of simply disposing of them.

This recyclability brings two wins:

  1. It reduces waste (see more on our green initiatives in our Green Plan);
  2. Whilst also cutting down on production and maintenance costs, which help us make micro-mobility more affordable for a wider audience.

Looks cool, but how fast does it go?

Here are some tech specs:

  • Bolt’s new scooter weighs 17kg, which makes it the lightest model used in scooter sharing. This reduced weight is achieved through the scooter being made of 90% aluminium, which comes at the additional advantage of being recyclable.
  • The scooter features inflatable tires that help ensure better grip and smoother, safer rides.
  • It can go for more than 40km on a single charge.
  • The new scooter has a maximum speed of 25km/h. But this is obviously limited according to local regulations.
  • A new in-app safety feature called Beginner Mode allows users to limit the maximum speed of their ride to 15km/h. Helping riders easily adjust to life on two wheels.
  • The scooter features front and rear lights, as well as front and side reflectors to help maintain riders’ safety during dark hours.

Additionally, the modular, yet extremely sturdy design — coupled with fewer moving parts — allows for superior repairability and a calculated lifetime of 36 months, and significantly lower use of plastic compared to competing models. The scooter’s reduced weight also means it operates with a meaningfully smaller carbon footprint.

Time to ride!

At the time of writing, you can rent a Bolt scooter in Portugal, Poland, Lithuania and Slovakia. The new model is already available to riders in Faro, Warsaw, Krakow, and Bratislava. Just so you know, we’re planning to launch scooter services in 45 more cities this season. Download the app now, so you don’t miss out!download the bolt app_scooters

P.S. In times such as these, micro-mobility is one of the safest means of essential urban travel. Stay healthy!
