The availability of some of the features mentioned in this article varies by location.

The Bolt Safety Team consists of 517 people, all dedicated to ensuring your safety while using the Bolt platform.

To give you a deeper insight into the work that goes into keeping riders and driver partners safe, we invited 4 of them to discuss all things safety.

🎧 You can listen to the entire conversation on YouTube.

Meet the Bolt Safety Team

There isn’t a studio big enough to fit all 517 members of the Bolt Safety Team. So, we gathered 4 experts to discuss all things safety:

  • Lucas, Senior Product Manager.
  • Mirjam, Head of Product Risk.
  • Rein, Safety Operations Manager.
  • Sarra, Safety Domain Manager.

Read on to learn how each of them contributes to keeping the Bolt platform safe for everyone.

Lucas, Senior Product Manager

Since joining Bolt in 2022, Lucas has focused on developing safety features for the Bolt app. His team is responsible for the tools you can use during your ride.

Mirjam, Head of Product Risk

Mirjam is an experienced member of the Bolt Safety Team, having joined the company in 2019.

As the Head of Product Risk, she ensures we’re prepared for any safety incidents that may occur. By putting action plans in place, our Customer Support Team can respond quickly and effectively.

Rein, Safety Operations Manager

Rein oversees the Customer Support team, ensuring we handle every safety-related message with care and empathy.

Sarra, Safety Domain Manager

Sarra works with multiple teams to set the strategic direction for safety, ensuring robust measures are in place across all 50+ countries where Bolt operates.

Defining a safety incident

You’ll hear the term ‘safety incident’ several times during the conversation. It’s essential to define this term before we go forward.

Most Bolt rides end smoothly — you get to your destination, thank your driver, and that’s it. Occasionally, things don’t go as planned, but most of these instances aren’t safety-related, e.g., perhaps the car was too hot.

A safety incident refers to a small number of rides where a rider or a driver partner feels unsafe during the ride. In response, the Bolt Safety Team will step in.

Keeping riders and driver partners safe

The dedicated 517 members of the Bolt Safety Team are by your side before, during, and after every ride.

A vital part of this is continuously improving the safety features available in the Bolt app. The Bolt Safety Toolkit includes:

  • Share Location.
  • Record Audio.
  • Emergency Assist.
  • 24/7 Support.

The Bolt Safety Team explain how these features work below. 👇

Share Location: stay connected, stay safe

The Share Location feature allows you to share your live location with someone you trust.

Tap on this feature before or during your ride, and you’ll get a link you can share with someone you trust. This person will be able to see your live location along with details of the car.

Record Audio: putting your safety on record

The Record Audio feature lets you record sound throughout your trip. The recording pauses if you make or receive a call and will resume afterwards.

The final recording is only for the ears of the Bolt Safety Team and, if necessary, the emergency services — but only if you choose to share the file via our Customer Support Team.

Emergency Assist: help is at hand

The in-app Emergency Assist* button allows you to quickly and discreetly alert an emergency response team should you or someone else need assistance.

Once confirmed, emergency services will see your live location and vehicle details. A member of our Safety team will also check in with you.

*Emergency Assist isn’t available in all Bolt markets due to local regulatory considerations.

24/7 Support: get help anytime, anywhere

Our Customer Support team is available 24/7. Whatever the issue, they’re here to help and handle your concerns swiftly.

“Once you contact us, we’ll make sure to handle everything with care and empathy.”

Rein Kapper, Safety Operations Manager

Ride Check: lengthy pause, quick check-in

Our systems continuously monitor your ride’s progress. If the vehicle remains stationary for too long, you’ll receive a notification to confirm your well-being.

What happens after reporting a safety incident?

If you ever feel the need to report something to us before, during, or after a ride, please do so. You can reach out to our Customer Support team in the app 24/7.

After reporting an incident, we prioritise investigating and resolving the case as quickly as possible.

In the long term, your report will help shape future developments that will help prevent similar incidents from happening again.

🙏 Please note that everyone using the Bolt platform — riders and driver partners alike — is held to Bolt’s community standards.

By your side. On every ride.

With the Bolt Safety Team by your side, you can ride confidently in 50+ countries. Download the Bolt app today and enjoy a safer journey.
