On MILES x Bolt and the car-sharing market

We see a clear trend in people moving away from car ownership and towards shared mobility.

An Oliver Wyman study, commissioned by Bolt, found that over ⅓ of Europeans are prepared to give up their private cars. This figure rises to 40% among those aged 18–34, highlighting a generational trend toward shared mobility solutions.

This makes our MILES partnership especially timely, given the remarkable increase in car rental users observed by MILES and BOLT.

With MILES, we’re offering customers in Germany another affordable alternative to private car ownership, providing all the benefits of having a car without the high costs.

On booking a car, pricing, and costs

Renting a car for short or long trips is easier than ever:

Open the Bolt app and select Bolt Drive;
Validate your driving licence and ID in the app;
Choose a car or van that suits your needs;
Pick your pricing option: pay-as-you-go or packages (details below);
Reserve your vehicle and go.

Pricing options: pay-as-you-go or packages?

As mentioned above, we have 2 pricing options for MILES car-sharing: pay-as-you-go and pre-paid packages.

Let’s see which might suit you best:

Pay-as-you-go (PAYG)

Ideal for shorter rides or if you don’t know how long you’ll need a car. With this option, you’ll only be charged for the time and distance you travel.

The PAYG fee includes free reservation time to reach, locate, and unlock the car.

Please note: a €1 ride-starting fee will be added to your total. This helps us cover operational costs, ensuring you have the smoothest experience possible.

Pre-paid packages

Packages are ideal for longer trips. Choose the time and distance you plan to cover, and you’ll know the total cost upfront — making it easier to plan your budget.

With pre-paid packages, the reservation time and ride-starting fee are both included in the price.

If you’re unsure how long you’ll need a car, start your rental at the standard pay-as-you-go rate. If an hourly or daily package ends up being cheaper than paying per kilometre, we’ll apply the lower rate to your ride.

No matter which option you choose, the cost displayed in the app is final and includes fuel, insurance, and parking (within the service area indicated on the Bolt app map).
