As the number of cars is expected to hit 2 billion globally by 2030, there’s an increasing temptation to build city infrastructure around them: by widening roads and building bigger car parks.
Simply put, our cities will become homes to the cars that drive through them — not the people that live in them.
Waste of space
The facts are ruthless — private cars take over half of our urban land and spend 95% of the time unused. In other words, we give them the majority of the space so they can sit around and do nothing.
This car-centric mindset can create a physical separation, with communities divided by busy roads and limited pedestrian-friendly infrastructure. The isolation prevents residents from forming strong bonds with their neighbours and neighbourhoods and ultimately makes them forget that cities should belong to them.
Decisions, decisions, decisions
By rethinking the urban landscape and prioritising people over cars, we can create welcoming environments that provoke a sense of community, belonging, and happiness.
While it’s up to authorities to decide how to design our cities, we think both businesses and citizens can be the catalyst for change. That’s where Bolt comes in — by making it easier for you to drive less and choose the means of transportation that’s best for your needs.
Make yourself at home
In the words of urbanist Yoko Alender: “A good city should be an extension of your home. Stepping outside should feel like stepping into your living room.”
We took this quote literally — and turned it into a campaign that shows what it feels like once your city starts feeling like home.
