Everything drivers and couriers need to know about delivering parcels on Bolt Send

Part 1: Bolt Send Driver FAQ

Bolt Send is Bolt's parcel delivery category. It lets riders and businesses request parcel deliveries through the Bolt app, with drivers transporting parcels instead of passengers.
Important: Bolt Send is a delivery-only category. It is not designed for passenger rides. If you see “Send (delivery only)” on your screen when an order comes in, that trip is a parcel delivery, not a ride. Do not accept it if you are expecting to carry a passenger, and do not carry a passenger while completing it.

1. Getting started

Bolt Send is Bolt's parcel delivery category. An initiator books a delivery, a driver picks up the parcel, and a receiver gets it at the drop-off point. No passenger travels in the vehicle during a Bolt Send trip.

Delivery orders are clearly marked “Send (delivery only)” on the accept screen. This tells you upfront that the trip is for a parcel, not a passenger, so you can decide whether to accept it.

2. Accepting and completing a delivery

You'll see the pickup details for the order initiator. Once you collect the parcel, head to the drop-off point. Call the sender or the receiver directly from the app if you need directions or more information.

Yes. You can see the sender and recipient details in the app. If needed, you can call either party directly from the app.

If the sender has enabled PIN verification, the recipient will show you a one-time PIN before you hand over the parcel. This helps confirm the parcel reaches the right person and protects both you and the recipient.

3. What you can and cannot deliver

No. Bolt Send is a delivery-only category and is not designed for passenger rides. If a person asks to travel in the vehicle during a Bolt Send trip, politely decline and direct them to book a regular ride instead. Carrying passengers during a Bolt Send trip breaches Bolt's terms and conditions.

You should not accept or carry: illegal items of any kind including drugs, weapons or ammunition, live animals, people, hazardous or flammable materials, and any item that is illegal to possess, sell, or transfer in your market. The full, market-specific list is in the Bolt Send terms and conditions, and a summary is shown to the order initiator when they book.

Do not deliver it. Cancel the order using the prohibited item reasons in the app, and do not proceed with the pickup or drop-off. If you're concerned about immediate safety (for example, if you believe the item is dangerous or illegal), contact your local police and leave the item with them; take a photo for your records and inform Bolt support.

No. The responsibility for making sure a parcel does not contain a prohibited item sits with the order initiator, and the order initiator confirms this when booking. You are not expected to open or inspect sealed parcels. If you have reason to believe a parcel contains something prohibited or unsafe, you can decline or cancel the order.

Yes, and it depends on the vehicle type you're delivering with. See the table below for typical limits.

Vehicle type: 2-wheeler (motorbike) - Max weight: Up to ~20 kg - Small parcels

Vehicle type: 4-wheeler (car/van) - Max weight: Up to 30kg - Medium parcels

Vehicle type: Pickup truck (where available) - Max weight: Up to ~300 kg - Up to 170 x 150 x 170 cm

4. Payments

If you do not receive the payment, do not withhold the parcel as leverage; follow the standard cash-collection process and report the issue to Bolt support if it isn't resolved.

5. If you can't reach the sender or receiver

Call the sender. If the sender is reachable, follow their instructions. They may ask you to return the parcel to the sender, or wait a short time. If the Sender is not reachable, take a photo as proof and inform Bolt support. In all other cases, take the parcel to the Bolt DEC, fleet office or the nearest police station, take a photo, and inform Bolt support.

No. Bolt offices do not store parcels. Please follow the return-to-sender or keep it at the Bolt DEC or fleet office or leave it at the police station.

Report it to Bolt support as soon as possible with as much detail (and photos, if available) as you can provide. Being upfront and prompt about damage or loss helps us resolve it fairly and quickly for everyone involved.

6. Safety

You can decline or cancel an order if you have genuine safety concerns, in line with Bolt's community guidelines. If something happens during a trip, report it through the app's safety reporting flow as soon as it's safe to do so.

If you suspect an item is illegal (for example drugs, weapons, or ammunition) before you pick it up, decline the order using the prohibited item reasons in the app. If suspicion arises after you already have the parcel, do not open it yourself and do not continue the delivery. Take it to the nearest police station, take a photo for your records, and report it to Bolt support as soon as possible.

In some markets, Bolt shows additional in-app warnings for locations that have been linked to higher rates of prohibited-item incidents, similar to existing unsafe-area alerts. These are there to help you make an informed decision before accepting. They don't mean you can't accept the order.

Follow the same steps you would for any road accident: check for injuries, call emergency services if needed and available ( check your Driver App for Emergency Call), and follow local requirements for reporting a collision. Once that's handled, let Bolt support know about the parcel involved, including its condition, so we can inform the sender and receiver. Do not attempt to complete the delivery if the vehicle or parcel is unsafe to move.

7. Staying active on Bolt Send

Repeated, significant delivery delays are tracked. As a general rule: a first complaint results in a warning, a second complaint results in a further warning, and a third results in the Bolt Send category being switched off for your account. This is about protecting the experience for senders and receivers, not about penalising occasional, reasonable delays.

In markets where Bolt Send is available, you can choose to opt in or out of receiving delivery orders in your driver app settings.

Reach out through the in-app support / help section, or your local fleet or driver support contact. Local FAQ pages may include country-specific detail.
