A recap of European Mobility Week celebrations

Oct 6, 2022

European Mobility Week promotes active mobility, public transport use, and other sustainable transport solutions. As Europe’s largest micromobility provider, we were naturally part of the celebrations.

The week-long event ended with World Car Free Day, designed to reduce the number of cars on the streets for a single day and remind us how society can benefit from less traffic and a greener environment.

Cities have a car dependency problem. Here’s how they can solve it

Madrid and Zaragoza, Spain

In Madrid and Zaragoza, our primary goal was to promote safe and sustainable micromobility.

To do so, we invited bypassers to participate in scooter and e-bike educational activities. Participants could try out e-vehicles at the Scooter Circuit School, learn why proper parking matters, and personalise their helmets for a bit of fun.

During the event, we ran training courses on safety with the support of specialised trainers from RACC

We were also able to introduce Madrileños to our second-generation charging docks.

The soon-to-be-launched new docks are made from recycled materials. They can be used to charge Bolt scooters and e-bikes and other operators’ vehicles (with a charging adapter).

It’s a step ahead in making our cities more environmentally and people-friendly.

Lisbon, Portugal

E-scooter use is thriving in cities across Europe. The two-wheeled ride is transforming urban environments by reducing CO2 emissions, congestion, and pollution. But as e-scooter adoption continues to rise, it raises the question of how — and where — riders park.

So, in Lisbon, we focused on correct scooter parking. To do so, we introduced a solution that helps keep city streets clean and scooters charged for future rides — charging docks.

Poland

In Poland, we challenged our users to ditch their cars in favour of more environmentally-friendly scooters.

As a reward, the person bagging the most scooter kilometres during the EU Mobility Week celebrations received a Fitbit to track their future urban adventures.

We also helped local authorities organise workshops on safe and correct scooter parking. And participants had the chance to practice their scooter riding for free under the watchful eye of our mobility experts.

Lithuania

To celebrate Car Free Day — and to nudge people to choose carbon-neutral modes of transport — we hid 500 free scooters across Lithuania and invited people to gather scooter kilometres for a prize of €100 in Bolt credit.

The Czech Republic

The Czech Republic

In the Czech Republic, our Mobility Week celebrations took place in various locations all over the country. We teamed up with local authorities to let residents try out Bolt scooters and e-bikes and learn about safety rules and correct parking.

Rijeka, Croatia

As you can probably tell, responsible parking was a common theme in our activities and workshops. The difference that can be made by parking an e-scooter neatly in a designated parking area — and not leaving it blocking a public pathway — is enormous.

Rijeka was no different. We organised Safety Days to raise awareness about scooter safety and, once again, discuss the benefits of micromobility.

As well as workshops and learning how to ride and park, attendees had fun designing helmets for their next ride.

Scooter parking cheat sheet

With all that talk about parking, it’s only fitting we add a little reminder on what to remember when parking your e-scooter:

  • Use designated parking zones (shown in the in-app map) or available bike racks;
  • Lower the kickstand to keep the e-scooter upright and prevent it from falling over;
  • Leave the e-scooter in a place where the next rider can easily reach it;
  • Consider your surroundings and use common sense;
  • Park in locations that don’t obstruct access or cause inconvenience for others;
  • Park on a flat surface to ensure your and other riders’ safety!
