Top 5 Bolt safety features — chosen by drivers

3 min read • August 12, 2025

We’re always listening to the partners who use the Bolt platform. Through surveys, support conversations, and direct feedback, we regularly hear what matters most, especially when it comes to safety.

Last year, we surveyed thousands of drivers across 7 countries to find out how many Bolt safety features they know, which ones they value the most, and how awareness of these tools affects their sense of security.

Bolt Safety Team — by your side, on every ride

Behind every Bolt ride is a dedicated Safety Team of over 500 people working to keep the platform secure for both drivers and passengers before, during, and after every ride.

They’re the team behind the features you rely on. Some, like identity verification, number masking, or Ride Check, work quietly in the background. Others, you see every day in the app. But together, they’re always on — helping you stay safe, ride after ride.

Here are the 5 safety features that over 13,000 drivers across Germany, Portugal, Romania, Spain, Ghana, Nigeria and South Africa appreciate most, and why.

Passenger and driver safety features vary by city. See the full list of safety features available to you on the local passenger or driver safety page.

1. Ride details sharing

Let trusted contacts follow your route in real time

Whether you’re finishing a late shift or picking up from a quiet street, it helps to know someone else can keep an eye on your journey. The ride details sharing feature lets you send a live link to a friend or family member, so they can follow your location from start to finish.

Why drivers love it:

It’s fast, easy, and adds peace of mind. Especially when driving in unfamiliar areas or after dark.

Where to find it:

You’ll see the ride details sharing option on your in-trip screen while a ride is in progress.

2. Emergency Assist

One tap for immediate support

The Emergency Assist button in your app gives you direct access to local emergency services or Bolt’s safety team (depending on your city). It’s designed to be easy to find and even easier to use.

Why drivers love it:

It’s a safety net you don’t need often, but knowing it’s there makes every ride feel more secure.

Where to find it:

Look for the shield icon or “Emergency” button on your in-trip screen.

3. 24/7 in-app support

Real people, ready to help anytime

Our Driver Support Team is available around the clock, right through the app. They’re specially trained to handle safety-related issues with urgency and care.

Why drivers love it:

You’re never on your own. Whether during or after a ride, you can get help directly in the app — anytime.

Where to find it:

Tap the menu (☰) in the driver app and choose Support to start a chat.

4. Ride Check

Smart protection that runs in the background

This system uses ride data to monitor unusual activity, such as long stops. If something doesn’t look right, we’ll check in to make sure everything’s okay.

Why drivers love it:

It’s like an invisible co-pilot. You don’t have to do anything — it just works, quietly improving safety for both you and your passenger.

Where to find it:

This feature runs automatically. If we detect unusual activity, we’ll contact you to ensure everything’s okay.

5. Passenger Ratings

Your feedback helps shape a safer platform

You rate passengers after each ride, and that feedback matters. Passengers with repeated low ratings can be warned or removed from the platform.

Why drivers love it:

It sets expectations. A respectful ride goes both ways, and your voice helps make that happen.

Where to find it:

After a ride ends, the app will prompt you to rate your passenger and leave a comment if needed.

The most important safety feature? Awareness.

No single feature stood out as the clear favourite. What made the biggest difference was the combination of Bolt’s safety tools. And even more importantly, awareness.

Knowing which tools are available, how they work, and how to use them had the biggest impact on driver confidence. In fact, 63% of drivers in some countries said they felt safer after learning about Bolt’s safety features available in their city.

That’s why we’re committed to not only improving our safety features, but also making sure you know exactly how to use them.

You’ll find all these features — and more — on your local driver safety page. Take a moment to explore them. They’re built for you. And they’re always on.
