If you see two charges for the same trip, one may be a temporary card authorization rather than a duplicate payment. This is a standard security measure to verify your card and prevent fraudulent transactions.
π How Temporary Authorizations Work
- When you book a trip, we may place a temporary authorization on your card to secure the fare.
- If the trip takes place and the final price matches the authorization amount, the hold may be converted into the final charge instead of a separate transaction.
- If the trip is canceled or the final price changes, only the final amount will be charged, and any extra hold will be released.
π When Authorization Holds May Apply
- If your trip is canceled (by you or the driver), the authorization is automatically voided, and the amount is returned.
Some banks do not send separate notifications for refunds.
- If your trip price increases (due to tolls, route changes, or other factors), you may see both the initial hold and the final charge.
- Bolt will release any excess hold immediately.
- Your bank will process the release according to its own timeline.
π Apple Pay Notifications
- If you used Apple Pay, you might receive a notification:
- At the time of booking
- Or when the trip ends
- This is just an alert for the temporary hold.
- If the trip is canceled, the authorization will be removed, and the funds will be returned per your bankβs processing time.
