Mykolaiv – center of Mykolaivska oblast and raion of the same name, founded in 1789 (received the status of a city a year later). The population is more than 470,000 inhabitants. The city is located at the mouth of the Inhul river, where it flows into the Pivdennyi Buh, 65 km from the Black Sea. It’s a developed industrial center. Among other different sectors of the economy, the shipbuilding & ship-repair industries should be particularly emphasized. It has several large full-cycle manufacturing, the oldest of which was founded in 1788. First 44-cannon frigate was set afloat by now named «Mykolaivskyi Shipyard» in the following 1789. It is also worth noting «Okean Shipyard» (founded in 1951) and «Shipbuilding Research & Design Center» (1975). The only city with 2 drawbridges in Ukraine: smaller «Inhulskyi» (422 m long, the lifting part – 76.25 m) and the larger «Pivdennobuzkyi» (750.7 m in total length, 90.73 m long 90° rotating around the Z axis part). Worth visiting places in Mykolaiv: RI «Mykolaivskyi Astronomical Observatory» (1821), Mykolaiv Zoo (opened in 1901), Admiralty building and Mykolaiv Museum of Shipbuilding & Navy.
