To drive with Bolt in New Zealand, you need to gather several key documents. The process is fairly structured, and obtaining documents in the correct order can save you time and money.

Document Requirements
The following documents are required to become a Bolt Partner in New Zealand:
 
  • Profile Photo
  • Driver's License
  • ​Passenger Endorsement (P)
  • Transport Service Licence (TSL) Label
  • Vehicle Certificate of Fitness (CoF)
  • Vehicle Registration
  • Vehicle Insurance​

Profile Photo

​Your profile photo helps riders recognize you. Please ensure to:
​
  • Upload a clear picture of yourself 
  • Remove any hats, caps, sunglasses or hoodies (exceptions: eyeglasses or religious headwear)
Driver's Licence

A valid New Zealand driver’s licence is required to operate a vehicle legally.
​
What You'll Need:​​
  • Your licence not be expired.

  • You must have held a full New Zealand car licence (class 1) for at least 2 years.​​

  • You must have a Passenger (P) Endorsement.​

Passenger (P) Endorsement

A Passenger (P) Endorsement allows you to carry paying passengers.

What You’ll Need
  • You must have held a full New Zealand car licence (class 1) for at least 2 years.
  • If you lived abroad for over a year after turning 14, you'll need police clearance from those countries.
  • ​A completed NZTA medical certificate from your doctor.

How Long It Takes - Up to 30 working days.
 
Transport Service Licence (TSL) Label

A Transport Service Licence (TSL) Label is required for commercial passenger transport.
​
What You’ll Need:
  • To request a TSL label from us during sign-up.
  • Alternatively, you may use your own TSL Label.

How Long It Takes - Up to 10 working days.
Certificate of Fitness (CoF)

A Certificate of Fitness (CoF) is a routine inspection to ensure that your vehicle meets the required safety standards. 

What You'll Need:
  • Book an inspection at an NZTA Agent, like VTNZ, AA or VINZ.
  • Apply using Bolt’s TSL number (0338549) if you do not have your own.
  • Light passenger service vehicles (PSV) requirements can be found here.

How Long It Takes - Same-day processing is available.

Vehicle Registration

Your vehicle must be legally registered to operate on NZ roads.

What You’ll Need
  • ​The vehicle must pass a Warrant of Fitness (WoF) or Certificate of Fitness (CoF) inspection.
  • Payment of any outstanding fees or fines.

Vehicle Insurance

Covers your vehicle, passengers, and third parties.

What You’ll Need:
​
  • A valid driver’s license.
  • Your vehicle must comply with all regulatory standards for ride-hailing services.

Helpful Tips
Speed up your documentation process by following these steps:
​
  1. International Police Check: If you have lived abroad for over a year after turning 14, you'll need police clearance from those countries as it’s required for your Passenger Endorsement application.

  2. Medical Certificate: This is required for your Passenger Endorsement application.

  3. Passenger Endorsement: Apply once your Medical Certificate and Police Check (if required) are completed.

  4. Transport Service Licence (TSL): Apply for your Transport Service License (TSL) through our driver registration portal to operate under Bolt's TSL, or apply for your own TSL at your local Driver Licensing agent.

  5. Certificate of Fitness: If an inspector requests it, please provide our TSL number, 0338549, to utilise Bolt's TSL.

  6. Vehicle Insurance: Organise this once your vehicle is approved.
