Who Can Drive with Bolt?
Driver Document Requirements
To become a Bolt driver in Portugal, you must meet certain criteria and provide valid documents. Make sure all your documents are up to date and ready before you apply or renew.
Valid driver’s license
Clean criminal record certificate
Professional driver certificate (TVDE
Clear profile photo
NIF (Tax Identification Number)
Medical certificate (if required)
For Fleet Owners and Independent Drivers
Vehicle Document Requirements
All vehicles used for Bolt rides in Portugal must meet these requirements. The car must be owned by the fleet or have a documented association with it.
Vehicle Registration Document (original color photo, front and back)
Professional insurance policy (Particular Conditions & Green Card)
Periodic Technical Inspection Certificate (must mention compliance with Law No. 45/2018)
The car must be less than 7 years old, have 5 doors, and not exceed 9 seats
What Your Insurance Must Include
Insurance Policy Details
Your insurance policy must meet strict criteria for TVDE operation. The policyholder must be the vehicle owner, except in cases of usufruct, sale with reservation of ownership, or financial leasing.
Policy number matching the Green Card
Civil liability coverage of at least €50,000,000
Occupant protection (death or permanent disability) of at least €10,000
Explicit mention of TVDE activity coverage
Insurance must be active (check status with the Insurance and Pension Funds Supervisory Authority)
If the Vehicle Isn’t Owned by the Fleet
Proving Vehicle Association
If your vehicle is not directly owned by your fleet, you must provide a document showing the relationship between the vehicle and the fleet.
Acceptable documents: ⁃ DAV (Vehicle Authorization Document) ⁃ Rental contract ⁃ Loan agreement (Comodato) ⁃ Financial leasing contract ⁃ Circulation declaration
Step-by-Step Instructions
Uploading Your Documents
You can upload your documents through the Driver Portal or the Fleet Manager Portal. Make sure all files are original color photographs—no scans or black-and-white images.
Open the Bolt driver app or visit the Driver Portal
Go to Settings > Account > Documents
Find the document type you need to submit
Complete the expiry date field (if applicable)
Click “+Upload file” to take or select a photo
Confirm the upload and wait for verification
Stay Compliant
Updating Expired Documents
If any of your documents expire, update them immediately to avoid interruptions. Upload renewed documents as soon as you receive them to keep your account active.
Log in to the Driver or Fleet Portal
Select the vehicle or document to update
Upload the new file and confirm details
Wait for email confirmation of approval or rejection
