Ema
As a law student from Slovakia studying in Sweden, Ema was thrilled to land a spot on the legal team, especially since she’d been a Bolt fan for years. “I can proudly say I’ve been a Bolt customer for 5 years before applying for this internship,” Ema says.
During her internship, Ema faced complex privacy issues across legal areas. She found every day to be a new challenge, especially considering the complexity of the problems she had to solve. Ema noted that one must understand all aspects of the law to tackle these issues. Despite the challenges, Ema embraced them and appreciated the support from her team. She enjoyed working with the team that always involved her in invaluable learning experiences.
Ema felt confident sharing her ideas and actively contributing to projects, and her unique perspective was highly appreciated. “There is almost no hierarchy at Bolt,” Ema explains. “No one ever questioned my competence based on my lack of experience. Instead, my thoughts were welcome as they brought a fresh perspective. It felt truly empowering.”
At the end of her internship, Ema found it an enriching experience that helped her develop her legal and soft skills. “Overall, I enjoyed being a part of this team, doing interesting work and managing to maintain my interest throughout,” Ema concludes.
Danila
Danila, a 21-year-old student of Business Administration from Riga, joined the Procurement team at Bolt for his internship. He found the experience to be a mixture of exploration and learning. “I spend a lot of time online exploring new things,” Danila says, “and Bolt gave me an excellent opportunity to explore Tallinn!”
Beyond sightseeing, Danila thrived in Bolt’s dynamic environment. “The possibility to work in a homegrown company that shares the same principles with me was amazing,” he explains. “I enjoyed the productive and fast-paced atmosphere with colleagues from all over the world.”
While the initial project planning proved challenging, Danila rose to the occasion. “The most challenging part was getting a hold of the position and initial projects planning,” he admits, “but I was surprised how fun work can be with its daily challenges.”
Danila credits the company culture for his positive experience. “Bolt is a company with a start-up mindset that respects its employees,” he says. “The people were friendly and had a ‘straight into action’ approach, which I liked.”
Ana
Ana, a 23-year-old law and technology master’s student from Georgia passionate about cooking, found Bolt’s internship to be a perfect blend of challenge and support. “While my true passion lies in law,” Ana says, “Bolt offered an experience packed with tasks from various fields that felt like a fresh canvas daily.”
Inspired by Bolt’s innovative approach and international reach, Ana thrived in the diverse legal landscape. “Engaging with laws from 40 countries was demanding but intriguing,” she explains. The supportive team environment kept her motivated, even when tackling complex projects. “Despite the workload, the atmosphere and the people made it truly enjoyable,” Ana highlights.
One of her biggest takeaways was the inclusive approach. “I never felt like an outsider,” Ana emphasises. “The journey of delving into legal frameworks across continents was amazing, and the opportunity to learn from my supervisor and colleagues was invaluable.”
Despite the challenges, Ana was surprised by the welcoming atmosphere. “People genuinely strive to assist one another,” she says. “Bolt’s remarkable ability to maintain work-life balance was another pleasant surprise.”
For those considering an internship at Bolt, Ana highly recommends it due to the welcoming culture, diverse projects, and opportunity to contribute to something innovative and fulfilling.
Ivanna
Ivanna, a 23-year-old law graduate passionate about art and data privacy, thrived in Bolt’s fast-paced environment. “I’m excited about startups and how my legal knowledge can help companies grow,” Ivanna explains.
Ivanna appreciated the friendly and open communication and was impressed by the team’s passion and dedication. She said everyone was approachable and willing to help, which made her feel at home.
Although the initial learning curve was steep, Ivanna welcomed the challenge. “I had to familiarise myself with all the tools during the first week,” she admits. “However, Bolt fosters a culture where asking questions is encouraged, and I was amazed at how quickly I received answers.”
Ivanna sees Bolt as a launchpad for young lawyers. “The company provides an excellent platform to begin shaping your legal journey,” she concludes. “It’s like a teenager — innovative, fast, and open-minded, with a fantastic team atmosphere.”
Marta
Marta, a naturally curious 21-year-old law student, craved a fast-paced and international work environment. “Scientists say curiosity peaks at 3-7 years old, but mine keeps chugging,” Marta says. And an internship at Bolt was precisely what she was searching for.
It was a whirlwind of activity, but Marta was pleasantly surprised by the collaborative nature. “It’s an environment that keeps you on your toes,” Marta explains. “The teamwork is incredible. Everyone brings something unique to the table.”
Marta’s biggest challenge was adapting to the practical legal world. “Transitioning from research to the business-oriented legal context was tough,” she admits. “It required refining my communication skills for concise solutions.”
Marta views Bolt as a hub for those who thrive in collaborative chaos and uncertainty. “Joining an internship at Bolt is like entering a zone of high-energy collaboration,” she concludes. “And it might not be everyone’s cup of tea.”
Juan Manuel
Juan Manuel, an Argentinian who arrived in Estonia in 2022, leveraged his love of learning and hard work to transition from another Bolt department to the legal team through an internship. “I believe results come from hard work and constant improvement,” Juan Manuel says.
While the workload could be demanding, Juan Manuel surprised himself with his proactiveness. “I want to be helpful, so I mostly say ‘yes’ to any work-related requests,” he highlights. “Managing tasks and deadlines can sometimes lead to pressure, though.”
The internship provided a surprising glimpse into Bolt’s global scale. “I already knew Bolt was big,” Juan Manuel admits, “but being here helped me understand its true dimension and complexity.”
Juan Manuel recommends the internship for its supportive atmosphere and learning opportunities. “The friendly environment allows interns to take ownership and learn from feedback,” he says.
He suggests that focusing on individual strengths can lead to long-term growth despite the common occurrence of immediate tasks. He notes that the program offers flexibility, and task allocation considers commitment and proactiveness. Both the interns and the company can benefit from the experience by challenging the former to use their strengths.
Viktoriia
Viktoriia is a 23-year-old with a passion for history and mushroom picking. She loves learning and relaxing and found Bolt to be the perfect blend of both. “I believe that everything I like makes me who I am,” says Viktoriia. “But the most important thing for me is to have the right mindset: life is not a competition, do what you enjoy.”
A graduate of IT Law at the University of Tartu, Viktoriia craved practical experience. “As a technology lawyer, Bolt, a fast-growing tech company, was a perfect match,” she explains.
Viktoriia, who now works remotely from Tartu, enjoyed the diverse legal issues she encountered as a Bolt intern and the supportive work environment. “From the beginning, I was handling everyday tasks and collaborating with different teams,” she explains. “I particularly appreciated Bolt’s philosophy of ‘Act like an owner,’ which enabled me to comprehend the business and make independent decisions.”
The commute from Tartu was challenging, but Viktoriia embraced the opportunity to connect with the Tallinn team. “I wanted to feel the company vibe,” she highlights. “While getting up for the train was difficult, it was worth meeting my mentor and participating in in-person meetings.”
Viktoriia was impressed by the company culture and the people. “It’s immediately apparent that the company prioritises hiring committed and top-tier talent, and I can confirm that after my internship,” she says.
Viktoriia recommends the internship for its unique experience and professional development. “It’s a chance to see an Estonian unicorn from the inside and discover startup culture,” she concludes. “Plus, you get to work on diverse topics and gain valuable experience.”
