Streamlined Criminal Record Checks (CRCs)

Details on the criminal record check process and why it’s required for all drivers.

Streamlined Criminal Record Checks (CRCs)

Every Bolt driver is required to have a clear criminal record to operate on the Bolt platform.

How to get checked

We've tried to make this process as easy as possible by providing up to 200 Huru (Postnet and Jetline) locations nationwide to have your fingerprints captured. Check out the steps below on how to complete this requirement.

What must I do?

Visit your nearest Huru partner (Postnet or Jetline store) to have your fingerprints taken. You will then receive an email from Huru with a PDF file attached. This PDF is your CRC. Upload the PDF file onto your Bolt profile using the driver portal. This can be found under the documents section in the Bolt driver app.

What must I bring?

- A debit card, credit card or cash to pay in-store. - Your ID document. One of the following: - RSA ID card or green ID book - RSA driver’s license (with PrDP) - At PostNet: Foreign passport required - At Bolt: Temporary PrDP accepted Note: Temp PrDPs and Asylum seeker/Refugee papers are not accepted.

How long is a CRC valid for?

Your Criminal Record Check (CRC) is valid until your PrDP expires, which can be up to 24 months. However, the CRC must be submitted within 12 months of its issue date.

How much does it cost?

- R280: Standard 24-48 hours - R330: Premium <5 hours - R480: Priority <2 hours

When can I get my fingerprints captured?

Most Postnet and Jetlines stores are open seven days a week from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

More information about CRC

Criminal record checks (CRC) is a documented record of an individual's criminal convictions and pending cases, thus an important part of the Bolt Driver Registration process. The CRC serves as a valuable tool to verify a driver’s identity and assess past involvement in any criminal activities: misdemeanours, arrests, pending court cases, felonies, convictions, active warrants, incarceration and even traffic violations.

  • At Step 5 in the sign up process, you'll be prompted to upload your PrDP followed by your Huru Criminal Record Check (CRC).

Note: The Huru CRC is a Password Protected file, i.e. this means you will need to input a password in the correct format to access your results.

  • Still need help? Follow these 5 simple steps:
  • At Step 5, on the Huru document request, hit the "upload file" button
  • Select the correct file from your device for upload
  • Enter your Date of Birth as the password - enter it in the format YYYYMMDD, e.g. 19860205
  • You will be prompted to enter your password again, so make sure you enter your password twice.
  • For the CRC document expiry date, use your Professional Driving Permit (PrDP) expiry date. This date can be found in the bottom right corner of your driving license.

  • Clear/Negative - No Previous Convictions identified
  • Hit/Positive - SAPS Verification Needed, Previous Convictions exist
  • Inconclusive - SAPS Verification Needed, Possible illicit activity

The fingerprint capture may not meet AFIS compliance quality standards. Excellent quality fingerprints should be supplied for verification. This way, the verification procedure guarantees accuracy of findings.

A “hit” means that the person in question doesn’t have a 100% clean record - possible past involvement in illicit activity or a case awaiting trial exists on file. It does not say anything about the seriousness of the hit.

A criminal record could exist for any of the following convictions, although not limited to:

  • Driving while drunk or intoxicated
  • Driving while license has been suspended
  • Possession of controlled substances e.g. drugs
  • Evading arrest/detention
  • Assault
  • Theft

Yes, depending on the seriousness of the offence, you can visit your local police station to obtain a Police Clearance Certificate.

A Police Clearance Certificate is a statement issued by the government of South Africa, specifically from the SAPS (South African Police Services) department. It details the crimes of a person whose fingerprints were run through their system.
