Introducing Bolt Drive upfront pricing

Nov 30, 2023

Our new upfront pricing feature locks in the final cost of your Bolt Drive in advance! In this article, we’ll explain how it works and look at some frequently asked questions.

But first, a quick Bolt Drive recap

Bolt Drive is a car rental service that lets you use cars on demand through the Bolt app. Since launching in Estonia in 2021, we’ve rolled Bolt Drive out to other European cities, including Riga, Jurmala, Vilnius, and Berlin.

What’s an upfront price, and how’s it calculated?

The upfront price is the final cost of your Bolt Drive trip from your location to your chosen destination. It’s based on the ride time and distance and includes parking, fuel, and insurance.

After you add a destination, the Bolt Drive upfront pricing feature calculates the price of the suggested route shown on the Bolt app map for nearby cars.

The upfront cost is locked in once you reserve a vehicle and is only valid for the chosen destination and suggested route. The cost takes traffic into account and the time it takes to park at your destination.

FAQ

How does free reservation work?

You have 15 minutes to locate and reach a car when you tap the Reserve button. During this time, you can cancel the reservation for free.

How to use Bolt Drive’s upfront pricing

Open the Bolt Drive section in the Bolt app and enter your destination. The app will then show you the cost of the suggested route for nearby cars.

What if there are changes to the suggested route?

If the trip changes or deviates significantly from the original route or destination, we’ll charge you the extra time and distance separately, based on the standard rates for that car model.

Can I still use the pay-as-you-go rental option?

Yes. You can still reserve Bolt Drive cars in the Bolt app and pay as you go. You’ll see the final price of your trip once it’s finished.

Shared mobility for people-centric cities

Bolt’s on a mission to make cities for people, not cars. In 2022, we surveyed Bolt Drive users to see if car-sharing could be an alternative to using private vehicles — thus decreasing the number of private cars on our streets.

Respondents said that once they saw the affordability and convenience of alternative transport options, they used such options regularly. And some even gave up their cars.

If you, too, are ready for change and want to contribute to making your city cleaner and tidier, opt for shared mobility the next time you need to travel!
