Climate Fresk: How Bolt’s encouraging more people to take action

This year at the COP27 UN Climate Change Conference in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, world leaders, policymakers, and delegates yet again voiced the need to take urgent action to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and respect the commitments made under the Paris Agreement and the Glasgow Climate Pact.

At Bolt, we’re also thinking about our role in helping countries and cities meet the Paris Agreement’s goals. That’s why we actively work towards reducing the environmental impact of our products and operations.
But what else can we do to magnify those efforts?
Faced with the climate emergency, education on the basics of climate science is a crucial part of the equation. Climate education empowers people to change their behaviours, perspectives, and mindsets, which, in turn, helps to reduce our carbon footprint. After all, everyone’s an agent of change, so educating our employees is an essential part of climate action.
This October, our Sustainability Knowledge Management team embarked on a mission to equip themselves with climate change knowledge and spread it across Bolt’s offices.
To do so, we contacted Climate Fresk — a French NGO created in 2018 by Cédric Ringenbach. Its goal is to promote quality climate education worldwide through the Climate Fresk workshop and training and upskilling facilitators.
Making sense of climate change can be difficult, but it doesn’t have to be. Climate Fresk helps simplify the mechanisms of this highly complex issue.
Climate Fresk is a workshop in the form of a collective intelligence game based on IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) reports where attendees learn about the causes and consequences of climate change. The experience is fun, collaborative, rigorous, and creative — all to give participants the keys to understanding the climate challenge.
‘Rising sea levels’, ‘Aerosols’, ‘Human health’, ‘Radiative Forcing’, ‘Fossil Fuels’, ‘Additional greenhouse effect’ — these are just a few examples of cards that participants discover during the workshop. In three hours, the objective is to link cards to highlight the causes and consequences of climate change.
And throughout the workshop, participants get to take ownership of their work and be creative. Participants are encouraged to ask themselves, “What can we do in our lives and companies to be agents of change?”
After the first workshop, our employees also participated in an additional session to become Climate Fresk facilitators themselves — so they can train Bolt colleagues.
By the end of the year, we’re planning to train more than 30 employees internally, with more training planned for 2023. Sharing knowledge will significantly help the fight against climate change.
