How Bolt driver partner earnings are calculated

Your Bolt earnings are made up of several components. Every completed ride contributes to your total, but that’s not all — you can also earn from tips, rewards, and extra fees.

In-app payments + Cash payments + Rewards + Tips + Cancellation fees* + Wait time fees*.

Your net earnings will be total earnings minus expenses, e.g. Bolt’s commission.

You’ll receive your earnings, along with rewards, tips and other fees in one weekly payout. In some markets, you may also be able to request an early payout*.

How much does a Bolt driver partner earn?

A study by Oliver Wyman shows that Bolt driver partners enjoy competitive earnings.

Across Europe, they earn on average 47–78% more than the minimum wage in their respective countries. In Berlin, that figure is around 37% above minimum wage, while in Tallinn it rises to 91%.

The gap is even wider in Africa, where in markets such as South Africa and Nigeria, Bolt driver partners can earn up to 130% more than comparable local wages.

How much drivers earn per ride

Each ride is made up of a few parts:

Base fare — a fixed amount just for starting the ride.

Minute rate — earnings for the time the ride takes.

Kilometre rate — earnings for the distance covered.

Dynamic pricing (surge) — can increase the total during busy times.

In practice:

Short rides rely primarily on the base fare and minute rate.

Long rides benefit from the kilometre rate.

Peak times/high demand can significantly boost earnings.

Example: potential earnings per ride

Let’s imagine a 15-minute, 5-kilometre ride in a mid-cost European city:

Base fare: €2

Minute rate: €0.10 × 15 min = €1.50

Kilometre rate: €0.50 × 5 km = €2.50

Total fare = €6.00

After Bolt’s commission (which varies by city and market, typically around 15–25%), the driver might earn about €4.50–€5.10 for a 15-minute trip.

By enabling Back-to-Back rides (read more below), a driver may complete around four rides per hour, earning roughly €18–€20.40 per hour. That’s €144–€163.20 for an 8-hour day, though breaks may lower these figures, while rush-hour demand can increase them.

Is there a maximum you can earn as a Bolt driver partner?

There’s no fixed limit on how much you could earn as a Bolt driver partner. You’ll be in charge of your schedule and earnings.

There are no hidden monthly fees. Bolt only takes a commission on completed trips, making the experience transparent and straightforward.

Six ways to maximise earnings as a Bolt driver partner

Driver earnings depend on several factors. Some driver partners only go online for a few hours a week, while others treat it as a full-time opportunity.

Here are six key factors that influence how much you can earn — and how to make the most of them.

1. Drive in areas with high demand

Every city has districts with consistent demand — usually near the city centre, tourist hotspots, transport hubs, and airports.

The Bolt Driver app highlights these areas in yellow-red on the live map. Positioning yourself near them can increase your request volume and earnings.

2. Drive during times of high demand

Earnings per ride and per hour are higher during busy periods, such as weekday commutes, weekend nights, and periods of bad weather.

Stay alert to in-app notifications about areas of increased demand and adjust your schedule to maximise income.

3. Register for multiple categories

You can earn more per ride if your vehicle qualifies for categories with added benefits, such as Comfort or XL.

Upgrading your vehicle can also allow you to register for the Child Seat or Pets categories. Activate all eligible categories in the app to receive more ride requests.

4. Accept as many requests as possible

Accepting more ride requests keeps you active, reduces idle time, and improves your activity score.

If too many requests are declined (for example, 20% of your last 100 rides), your account may be temporarily deactivated in line with Bolt’s Terms and Conditions.

5. Turn on the Back-to-Back rides feature

This feature helps you receive the next ride request while you’re completing a current trip, reducing waiting time and boosting total earnings.

If you decline a Back-to-Back request, you’ll need to reactivate this feature manually.

6. Spend more time online

Since you control your schedule, the more time you spend online, the greater your potential income.

Staying active can also help you qualify for additional Bolt Rewards benefits and discounts.

Bucharest stood out with 31.77% of passengers choosing this. With weather that swings from –5°C in winter to 40°C in summer, comfort inside the car really counts.

3. Passengers like having a say in the music

Chosen by 20.67% of passengers

Music is personal. Some passengers enjoy listening to background music, while others prefer silence.

Paris topped the list at 26.30%, showing Parisians clearly appreciate having a say in the mood.

“Is this music okay for you? Would you prefer a different genre or silence?”

4. Everybody appreciates a little extra legroom

Chosen by 14.25% of passengers

Simple adjustments, like sliding your seat forward before pickup, can make passengers feel cared for.

Berlin passengers appreciated this the most, topping this category at 19.50%.
