You'll work end-to-end on data science problems that directly influence Bolt's marketplace - with millions of customers daily across 50+ countries. Your work will range from exploratory analysis and experiment design to building, deploying, and monitoring predictive models in production. You'll identify opportunities through data, validate them through rigorous experiments, and take solutions from research to real-world impact. As a Principal Safety Engineer, you will be the guardian of safety integrity across our SAE Level 4 Autonomous Product and the broader robotaxi ecosystem. You will own the complete, end-to-end L4 safety case—from hazard analysis (HARA) and operational design domain (ODD) definition through to system design, verification, and regulatory approval. As a Senior Backend Software Engineer based in Tallinn, you will be responsible for architecting, designing, developing, and deploying Bolt's growing backend systems, mostly via coding in Node.js and TypeScript (no prior Node.js experience needed). Bolt is building a commercial L4 autonomous ride-hailing service in Europe. The programme spans multiple simultaneous workstreams — ADS technology partnerships, vehicle homologation, fleet infrastructure, regulatory approvals, and mobility platform integration — across multiple European markets starting with Luxembourg. This role exists because moving fast across all of those workstreams simultaneously, while keeping every partner aligned, every regulatory dependency visible, and every documented commitment honoured, requires a distinct person whose primary output is programme coherence. You sit between the Head of Product & Deployment, the ADS technology partners, the vehicle OEMs, the regulatory authorities, and the internal engineering and operations teams — translating technical complexity into clear decisions, clear accountabilities, and clear written records that the programme can build on.
